Not much gold, but a far more valuable material for the Eastern tribes, flint. These lands were so sacred that mortal enemy tribes would mine for the good quality flint needed for their points side by side. If you caused problems your own tribe, took care of you for the violation of the Peace. Well this location, has some of the best lapidary grade flint in the area.
Many vugs and druzy surfaces here in the raw rock. Heat treated stone has the best lapidary possibility due to the color changes it makes after the cooking. Look for patterns or colors that are eye catching. Lots of tumbler sized material on the ground. Good people, great prying time...it is easy to tap the host rock to find the natural fault lines and take it apart like a puzzle...no need to use a chisel to cut out what you want to take home. Just a hammer, a thin prybar,...and shovel and buckets.
Be very selective on your rocks, but the price per Lb. is very reasonable for the quality available...and I did hear they opened up a Brand new area last year
